ACCESS MAGAZINE CANADA MAY, 1998 "With a cautious ear bent towards the current 'stoner-rock' dope-fest and the other placed eloquently in the direction of early psychadelia, The Elephant Riders is a mishmash of daze and confusion. That's what makes Clutch such an easy entity to warm up to: groove galore, cool as hell, bass lines that swell and shimmy through the air, a healthy Sabbathy outlook wrapped around the spirit of, say, War, and the musical 'presence' of Zepplin. The Elephant Riders is a trippy, yet mad-as-hell breath of smoke. The bass-led meanderings of 'The soapmakers', 'Muchas Veces', 'Green buckets' and the swarming title track place Clutch in a sincerely wacky category of funked-up rock and soul, allowing the band to emerge as the Cheech & Chong of heaviness; living for the moment of the vibe, preferring to be less than sober in its delivery, and most certainly hoping that it devourers join it on a similar cloud. 8/11" - Tim Henderson
