The
following interview was done in the hallway backstage
at the 9:30 Club on 9/8/2000.
PRO-ROCK:
You guys just signed to Atlantic. What effect
will that have on the release of the new record?
NEIL
FALLON: It's not really going to effect anything.
We've pretty much recorded 75% of the record. And
then signed, so the record's proceeding without
them.
Every
time we give a release date, it's always, always
wrong. We're trying to get it done (mixed and mastered)
by Halloween. So I'll just say that it'll be done
by Halloween. But it's (release date) going to be
some time after the new year for sure.
PR:
Will it be released through Atlantic or River
Road?
NF:
It will be released through Atlantic. It may say
River Road on it, it may not. At this point I don't
know.
PR:
Will the record be following any certain themes
this time around?
NF:
Yeah. Well, yes and no. It's hard to tell right
in the middle of it. It's definitely more bizarre.
I hate to use the word psychedelic, but it goes
in that direction. There's a small little trilogy,
like a mini rock opera. We've got 3 songs (Red Horse
Rainbow, Oregon, and Oh Yeah, The Great Outdoors)
that are sort of a trilogy. There may be one or
two more songs that go along with them that may
get tacked on there. They may not be in chronological
order on the record. We're still working on that.
PR:
Have you decided on a title yet?
NF:
No. We've kicked around so many titles.
PR:
Any consideration for releasing a B-sides record?
NF:
We'd love to do it, but it's hard because each one
has been on a different label pretty much. I think
the only way a B-sides record is going to happen
is if someone fronts the money to buy them from
the record labels, and that would be us.
PR:
How about a live record?
NF:
We actually recorded some stuff not too long ago.
We have quite a bit or recordings. We did a set
recorded with BBC in Belfast that sounds killer.
And tonight during the Bakerton Group's set and
during part of our set we're going to record. We
may use portions of that on the next record. It
wouldn't be live in the traditional sense, but there
would portions of maybe Tim's guitar track that
would appear on the next record, for an example.
Neil
also spoke briefly about the artwork for the new
record. It's being handled by Sean Evans (Elephant
Riders), and he said that it will be much more bright
and colorful than Elephant Riders and Jam Room.
